Search & Filter Bar

Quickly locate records by typing keywords to filter table data in real time.

Purpose

The Search & Filter Bar allows users to instantly locate specific records within large tables without manually scrolling through multiple pages.

By narrowing the displayed data based on text input, users can focus only on relevant information, improving accuracy and efficiency when managing scaffolds, users, inventory, or job sites.

This feature is ideal for quickly finding items such as scaffold codes, inventory items, user names, or site references within Cloudscaff.

How to Use

Entering Search Terms

At the top of the table, you will find a Search Bar.

Begin typing the word, code, or reference you want to locate.

The system requires a minimum of 3 characters before it starts filtering. Once three or more characters are entered, the data below the table automatically filters to display only items that match your input.

Viewing Filtered Results

As you type, the list below dynamically updates.

Only records containing the entered text (in any column configured for search) will remain visible.

All other records are temporarily hidden until the search text is cleared.

To display all records again, click the Clear (X) icon located at the right end of the search bar.

This action removes the search text and resets the table to its full dataset view.

How It Works in Practice

  • The table listens for changes in the search input field.

  • When at least three characters are detected, the table dynamically filters records based on matches found within searchable fields.

  • The filtering happens locally on the loaded data, ensuring instant response without reloading the page.

  • Clearing the input instantly restores all table data and pagination.

Best Practices

  • Use Clear Keywords: Enter short, specific identifiers (e.g., “Site 12”, “Jack Base”, “Andrew”) for more accurate results.

  • Minimum Character Limit: Remember that search filtering only activates after entering 3 or more characters.

  • Reset After Use: Always click the Clear (X) icon once you are done searching to restore the full dataset.

  • Case-Insensitive Matching: Search results are not case-sensitive. You can type in either uppercase or lowercase.

  • Consistent Field Names: Ensure your data follows standard naming conventions so searches return predictable results.

  • Search Placement: Keep the search bar visible and aligned with the top of the table for easy access.

Tips:

  • Combine the search bar with pagination and sorting for efficient data navigation.

  • Use placeholder text such as “Search by name, code, or reference” to guide users.

  • For performance, avoid filtering on every keystroke in very large datasets — limit to 3 characters or add short delay intervals.

  • If the table appears empty after filtering, check the spelling or clear the search to confirm all data is visible again.
